Glossary
The majority of my furry characters live in a world of my own design, inspired by certain low-fantasy settings that I enjoy such as the World of Darkness (the setting of Vampire: the Masquerade and related games) and the Buffyverse (the setting of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel).
Coming up with a super comprehensive write-up of the rules, the lore, and how to set your own furry OC in my world has been on my pile of "Projects I know I wanna do some day". It is quite a pile. For now, here's a glossary that might make it easier to understand some of the lore terms that pop up in certain character profiles!
Glossary
Apparent species: (Formal, Clinical) The animal species that a [furry] resembles.
Breath: An invisible, vital energy found in all living things. Without it, Risen turn to ash, and Fairies lose their whimsy.
Fae-blooded: Mortal or Fair descendants of the Fair folk.
Fae spirits: Creatures of pure Breath, sometimes seen by mortal children.
Fair folk: Fae spirits born in mortal bodies which bloom into magical beings most often in their childhood or adolescence, and more rarely in infancy or adulthood.
Greater beasts: Mythological animals, often pets and attendants to Fairies.
Lesser beasts: Ordinary, non-sapient animals. “Lesser” relative to man-kind.
Lifeblood: (See Breath) Often denotes Breath that is physically devoured and digested, especially in mortal blood.
Mortals: Ordinary people, the vast majority of this setting's denizens. Unless they're very superstitious or very observant, they have no clue supernatural creatures are real.
Realm of Fae: A world of dreams made manifest.
Realm of the Dead: The Underworld, where ghosts reside.
Realm of the Living: The physical world, where mortals and most Risen reside.
Risen: Those who were once mortal, and are now immortal.
Risen Dead, The: (Poetic, Archaic) (See Risen) A term rejected by certain Risen, namely those who do not feel, or identify as undead.
Vampires: Risen who subsist primarily on mortal blood. Often share other common traits such as vulnerability to sunlight, being stunned by a stake through the heart, etc.
